These Italian Names…

SOME YEARS ago, Br Guilermo and Fr Manuel were about to visit the community of Bressanone, South Tyrol, Italy, as part of their work at the General Council of the Comboni Missionaries. An email was sent to the superior of Bressanone to inform him of their arrival. The message read: “Deo Volente, Br Guilermo and Fr Manuel will arrive tomorrow afternoon at Bressanone at 17:30 on the train from Rome to Innsbruck. Would you kindly meet them at the train station in Bressanone?” The Tyrolese confrere who came to collect them at the station asked, after seeing only two confreres, namely Br Guilermo and Fr Manuel, “Where is Deo Volente?” “It is only the two of us,” was the answer. The kind Tyrolese confrere’s final comment was: “Ah! These Italian names…”
Feathers in the Rafters
One Saturday evening at Mass, long before our church, St Augustine’s Catholic Church, Silverton, was expanded, we all became aware of a strange, loud noise that sounded like someone ‘snoring’.
