This collage features the front covers of Worldwide issues over its 35 years of existence. At the centre is the cover of the first edition, dated October/November 1990. Worldwide saw the light during a missionary month and continues its mission of proclaiming the Gospel; this is the reason for its being.

OUR CURRENT WORLDWIDE TEAM

Ric Gindap and his Design For Tomorrow team have been designing every issue of Worldwide Magazine since 2013.

OUR CREATIVE JOURNEY

Our friendship with World Mission Magazine in the Philippines and across Asia became the unlikely bridge that led us to Pretoria, South Africa.

Since 2005, I, and later my colleagues at Design For Tomorrow, have had the privilege of volunteering our craft to design and art direct World Mission, then edited by the ever-inspiring Fr José Antonio Rebelo (affectionately called by us as Fr Joe). Under his stewardship, and later that of Fr Dave Domingues, we guided the magazine through a thoughtful redesign and creative reinvention.

While we were allowed to be bold in its visual identity, its readership grew. The subscriber base deepened, and its voice gained new weight, earning awards across journalism, editorial, design, and digital fields. These accolades are proof that clarity and belief, when shaped well, can truly travel.

When Fr. Joe was reassigned in 2013 to helm Worldwide Magazine in Africa, he reached out once more: could we breathe new life into this publication, too? How could we ever say no? Our studio’s ethos has always been anchored in values, storytelling, and the journalistic lens. It was a calling that aligned seamlessly with our own.

When his mission later brought him back to Lisbon, Fr Joe ensured the friendship endured. He passed the torch with care, and in 2020, Fr Rafa took the helm.

Fr Rafa expanded the foundation Fr Joe had laid with courage and vision. Under his editorship, he took the helm, safeguarding the same journalistic rigor while opening the magazine ever more generously to the power of design and art direction. Through his leadership, Worldwide continues to carry Africa’s stories with dignity, clarity, and resonance, giving them wings to reach audiences far beyond its shores.

For many years, we have remained committed to this task: to bring editorial clarity through design, typography, pacing, and content hierarchy. To let form serve substance, and beauty serve truth.

We remain deeply grateful for Fr Rafa’s openness, generosity, and consistency as he carries the torch of the Comboni mission. To be part of Worldwide’s journey is both a privilege and a responsibility, truly an honor to help amplify voices that need to be heard, and to remind the world that light still burns even in difficult places.

Worldwide is a beacon of hope and sanity in a world that is often noisy and fractured. May its pages continue to bring the mission alive, carrying light across continents and across years. We cheer for the Comboni missionaries, and Worldwide Magazine on its 35th anniversary!

BEHIND THE SCENES

As I reflect on my nearly two-year tenure as proofreader for the esteemed magazine Worldwide, I am filled with gratitude and a sense of honour.
